And Why Lake Como Wedding Venues Is A Great Location

There’s something so exciting about eloping in Italy. The idea of eloping is romantic on its own, but traveling to Italy (one of the most romantic places on the planet) makes it even more thrilling. I’ve photographed several weddings and elopements in Italy, and every one of them has been special and unique in its own way.

If you’re considering eloping in Italy, salute! I’ve got plenty of experience working with couples who want to get married in this beautiful country. And I’m happy to share some of my insight and experience, so you have some insight for your upcoming nuptials.

There are so many fantastic places to get married in Italy, but for the purposes of this blog, I’m going to focus on one of my favorite spots: Lake Como Wedding Venues. Here’s everything you need to know about eloping in Italy and why you should consider getting married at Lake Como Wedding Venues.

Why Choose Lake Como Wedding Venues

Simply put, Lake Como Wedding Venues is one of the most wedding-friendly places I've ever visited. It has several beautiful locations that are perfect for gorgeous wedding photos, an intimate ceremony and a delightful reception.

And this location can cater to pretty much any theme or style, from rustic to chic to modern. One of the reasons I like shooting there so much is it offers a ton of versatility for couples celebrating their wedding day.

Lake Como Wedding Venues offers various indoor and outdoor locations for your wedding. If you want a wedding on the beautiful Lake Como itself, there are several spots to choose from. Or if you prefer something else, like an ivy-covered castle, that’s available too.

Plus, there are several different wedding planners available that specialize in this location. They’re incredibly helpful and can help you plan the elopement of your dreams. But don't get ahead of yourself - before you start booking your plane tickets, make sure you have the required documents for your wedding.

Required Documentation

In order to get married at Lake Como Wedding Venues, you need to have the proper documents to make your union legal. At the very least, you will both need to bring your valid passports, your birth certificates, an Atto Noto (or a Certificate of No Impediment) and a Nulla Ostave (which acts like an affidavit.)

United States citizens can get married in Italy, but you’ll need to make a few trips to the Italian Consulate to do this. The Italian Consulate is where you'll obtain your Atto Noto and Nulla Ostave. And you have to go to the town hall to fill out a "Declaration to Marry" form.

These steps are important, so you want to fill out the right form and understand when and where your meetings are. If you don’t speak Italian, bring an interpreter to help you.

Once you've prepared your identification and scheduled any necessary appointments to obtain the right documents, you can start planning your Lake Como Wedding Venues elopement.

Best Seasons For Eloping In Italy

Maybe I'm biased, but I believe Italy is stunning all year long. I can’t think of a single season I don’t love, especially when it comes to shooting at Lake Como Wedding Venues. That said, you probably want to do some planning if you prefer an outdoor wedding or if you want a snowy scene for your wedding photos.

Spring and summer are both perfect times to get married at Lake Como Wedding Venues because the weather is warm and flowers are in full bloom. If you want an outdoor Italian wedding with sunny weather, getting married between March and August will be your best bet.

However, autumn and winter are equally lovely at Lake Como Wedding Venues. The colorful landscape is truly beautiful in the fall, and the snowcapped Alps are magical during the winter season. If you're more of an autumn or winter couple, opt for September through February.

No matter what time you pick, give yourself a few months of headway for planning and travel, so you get the right weather for your wedding.

Lodging, Vendors and Activities

Destination weddings of any kind can be tricky. So, it’s good to do your research and plan ahead when it comes to transportation, vendors and lodging. Lake Como Wedding Venues offers lodging at various hotels and villas, making it easy for everyone in your wedding party to stay close and enjoy the celebration.

Regardless of the size of your group, it’s a good idea to find local vendors to handle flowers, hair and makeup, catering and more. However, you can likely bring your wedding dress, wedding suit and other items with you. As I mentioned before, Lake Como Wedding Venues is well-versed in weddings and celebrations of all kinds, so you won’t be hard-pressed to find a planner to help you.

Plus, if you want to find additional activities before or after the wedding, Lake Como Wedding Venues has several shops and restaurants serving amazing local goods and food. Or, if you’re looking for something a bit more active, they also have private cruises on the lake and hiking in the nearby foothills.

Final Thoughts

Eloping in Italy is something you’ll never forget. There are things you need to prepare for and plan, but that’s true for any wedding. That's why I think having your wedding at Lake Como Wedding Venues is a great idea, especially since it offers something for everyone.

Lake Como Wedding Venues is by far one of my favorite places to photograph weddings and elopements, mainly because their location is absolutely stunning. The dreamlike backdrop of the lake and the Alps of Italy make every event seem like something out of a romance movie. Honestly, I swoon a bit just thinking about it.

And if you and your future spouse want to elope in Italy at a breathtaking location geared toward romance, Lake Como Wedding Venues is a great option.
